On Thursday, September 22, Samuel Mahaffy of GRE Consulting Associates joined Amanuel Yohannes, Executive Director of Salaam Urban Village Association (SUVA) to receive a grant award personally from the Mayor of the City of Seattle.

The City of Seattle awarded a total of $320,000 in technology grants to only 23 projects
through the Bill Wright Technology Matching Fund Program.

Using this funding, SUVA will create connections between elders and young people in the East African immigrant/migrant community, to enhance the technology skills of both young people and elders, and to further bridge the cultural gap between families from Ethiopia, Eritrea, Somalia, and other countries with their new home in the greater Seattle area.

The outcome will be to decrease isolation within the East African community and to enhance civil engagement and responsible citizenship.
