You may have heard about a small non-profit getting a “capacity building” grant. Maybe you have wondered what that means?
Capacity building is increasingly in the conversation among both funders and organizations looking for funding. Very simply, capacity building activities are those steps that make an organization more capable of carrying out its mission. This may look like training, professional development, coaching, outside consulting, or partnership development.
What is too often missing from the conversation is evaluative tools to measure capacity. If you can’t measure your organizations capacity, how do you know if you are building it?
GRE Consulting Associates has been at the forefront of developing innovative tools for measuring capacity. Often these can be very simple leikert scale questionnaires that may take only a few minutes to complete.
Capacity building funding won’t build you a new building. It won’t pay your utility bill. It won’t bail you out of an operating deficit. It may help bring your organization the wisdom and understanding to do these things!
If you have not previously received grant funding, writing a capacity building grant may be a great place to start!
