Juvenile justice agencies across the State of Montana participated in an October 2009 training in Balanced and Restorative Justice (BARJ). The Montana Board of Crime Control funded a grant application prepared by Samuel Mahaffy of GRE Consulting Associates. Funding provided for experts in restorative justice to offer training, and supported travel expenses for participants from across the State. The restorative justice model that brings together victims and offenders is based on restitution instead of retribution. GRE is seeking to build a broad partnership of organizations involved in restorative justice to apply for funding from the U.S. Department of Justice.
